Turkey's driverless electric bus, surprise the world
Turkey surprised the world by testing its own driverless electric bus. The test was conducted in the presence of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Monday (February 1st), according to the country's media Sabah Daily Sabah. Turkish Minister of Industry and Technology Mostafa Baranak was also present at the occasion.
The bus, named Atak Electric, uses a BMW 220-kWh Li-ion battery. It is capable of covering a range of up to 300 kilometers (16.4 miles) between two charges. It will take three hours to be charged directly.
The 26.2 feet (6.3 meters) long bus can seat 50 passengers. Carmaker Karsan said they have already started mass production.Speaking at the opening ceremony, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that these bus manufacturers will enhance the reputation of Turkey and Turkish brands around the world. Last month, Autocar, another Turkish company, tested its own electric bus.
